Eat Clean and Live Well – Clean Start Cookbook by Terry Walters

I love this book! Clean Start by Terry Walters. It is one of those cookbooks that is so stunning that you feel better just by looking through it and absorbing all of the goodness of the clean foods that Terry talks about.  The photographs are gorgeous and the recipes are amazing too!

The cookbook is organized so beautifully in sections, starting with an introduction, the basics, making it work for you and recipes that are by the seasons of the year! I love it … that Terry has thought about all of the details for each season to inspire us year round.

I was so honored to have met Terry Walters, the author of  “Clean Start”, recently when she was here in Seattle.  Terry’s passion about clean foods started when she became a Holistic Health Counselor in Connecticut. When she started counseling it was clear to her that she needed to provide some information that was simple.  Terry began teaching cooking classes and then her first cookbook, “Clean Food” was a natural progression of her classes.  Terry reminds us to think about the colors of the rainbow as far as our foods that we eat.  What reds, yellows or greens have you eaten today she asks … as she shares stories about her children.  Terry believes that you only bring in good clean food into the house and that is what everyone eats.

Terry also believes that packaging is not required for clean food if it is from the farm.  We should think of our food as fuel.  Food should fuel our metabolism, our activity and our community.  She explains that if we eat local from our farms and area producers then we are fueling our community to sustain as a business.

Clean Start is the perfect book if you want some guidance to make a transition into eating healthier and closer to the source of your food.  There is so much information about setting up your pantry, tools, grains, legumes – and how to make it work for you.  I have read this book cover to cover and I don’t want to put it down on my shelf.  I know I will be referring to this book regularly.

This book is Vegan and Gluten Free! Bravo … Bravo!
I can’t wait to make this Polenta Pizza with Kale and Maitake Mushroom
and a Chard and Parsley Pesto Sauce!
I am so excited to share this book with you I haven’t put it down to make something just yet …
I will share it all with you as soon as I do …
A few last words that resonate with me that Terry suggests,
eat all five tastes –
sweet, sour, salty, bitter and pungent –
that are all naturally in foods and not added.
Thank you for such a lovely book Terry!
Namaste,
Lisa
