Hey Gluten Free Foodies, have you heard about the new, totally cool … (ha ha) frozen yogurt places that are popping up all over called Menchie’s
Seattle has 3 locations and the newest location in Queen Anne opened last week! So fun and cute, located at 2101 Queen Anne Avenue North – Upper Queen Anne at the corner of Crockett Street. There are also locations in Federal Way and Vancouver, WA in our area. The company is based out of California and locations are opening up all across the US.
So you say … what is Menchie’s and why is it sooo cool?
Well, it is a fun atmosphere, self serve and most of the frozen yogurts are Gluten Free –
if it doesn’t have the words cake or cookies in the name … then it is Gluten Free and some of the flavors are even dairy free and no sugar added. There are 14 flavors on a wall that you can walk up to for self service. The fun thing is that you can sample the flavors before you buy! The flavors change regularly so you can fall in love with all of them one at a time! There are over a 100 flavors that are offered by the company and the local franchise can make their own seasonal flavors.
Some of the flavors on the wall while I was there were …
Coffee, Raspberry, Blackberry, Kiwi Strawberry Sorbet, Tart, Pineapple Tart, Peanut Butter, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla Snow. They also had some seasonal flavors like Pumpkin and Egg Nog. When I was talking to the Manager, Nathan, I asked what the most popular flavor was and he said that it is Pineapple Dole Whip, just like the one available at Disneyland. I tried a few while I was there and my favorite was Dulce de Leche! So decadent and just like the real thing! One new flavor coming out next week – Creme Brulee … can’t wait to try it!
So here is how it works, when you go in, you are greeted by one of the sweet Menchie’s staff, and they show you how to use the machines. You fill up your cup and when you have created your perfect mix, they weigh it and you are charged .43 cents per ounce. This is a great way to have a healthy snack break and at a good price. Their yogurt has 1 billion live active cultures so it is a healthy snack alternative to fast food. To learn more about nutritional information, locations, flavors and how Menchie’s was created check out the web site!
Please note that there are toppings available in bulk bins but because of cross contamination they are not considered Gluten Free. Menchie’s also offers waffle cones that they make on site but they are not Gluten Free.
Be sure to “Like” them on Facebook to get up to date info on new flavors appearing and stores opening near you.
So go shop and then relax with friends and family. Menchie’s is a great way to enjoy a fun, tasty treat that will put a smile on your face. You will be hooked after the first taste!
For those of you that are already Menchie’s fanatics they offer gift cards and punch cards. The gift cards are perfect for the holidays, be sure to put them on your wish list. The punch cards are really great too, when you buy nine 8oz purchases, the 10th one is free! The also offer pre-packs 32 oz of your favorite flavor for $6.99.
